Boat Tour in San Sebastián on the Catamaran Ciudad San Sebastián
If you're in San Sebastián and you fancy enjoying a boat tour around the Bay and the coast of Donostia, we have the perfect boat for you: the Catamaran Ciudad San Sebastián.
Discover the city's most iconic landmarks on this boat excursion with included audio guide.
The boat is moored at stair number 1 of the San Sebastián port, from where we will set sail. We will welcome you aboard the catamaran, and all you have to do from this moment is to sit back and enjoy the panoramic views you are about to witness. If you feel like it, we will serve you a refreshing drink or a hot coffee at our onboard bar. We also have a restroom on the boat and a well-ventilated indoor deck with large windows if you prefer to enjoy the experience of visiting San Sebastián from the boat in the shade.
Once we set sail, we will head towards the harbor entrance, full of young people, joy, energy, and vitality, where locals have always taken advantage of the harbor docks to take a dip, jumping from the highest points and releasing adrenaline.
As we cross the entrance, we will enter fully into the bay of San Sebastián, where we can see on the horizon the beach of La Concha, Ondarreta a little further away, and the island of Santa Clara in the middle, which we will leave to our port side while the famous Aquarium of San Sebastián remains to starboard. We will continue our boat journey heading out to sea. Leaving the Aquarium behind, we can contemplate the Paseo Nuevo of San Sebastián and its famous waves, where on days of strong waves, they can rise more than 15 meters above the promenade when breaking. In the same location is the majestic sculpture "Empty Structure" by Jorge Oteiza, which we can observe from a unique viewpoint.
After passing through the Paseo Nuevo, we will head towards the Gros neighborhood, towards Zurriola beach, famous for its waves and surfers. Before reaching Zurriola, we will pass by the mouth of the Urumea River, which divides the city of San Sebastián. At this point, we will see the "other side" of the Old Part of San Sebastián, where the famous pintxos are tasted, and in front of them, the modern Kursaal, also known as "Moneo's cubes". From here, we can glimpse numerous peaks on the horizon, such as the majestic Peñas de Aia, Mount Adarra, Santiagomendi, Urgull, Jaizkibel, Larhun, the peaks that surround San Sebastián.
We will arrive at Zurriola beach, where we can see the surfers in action and people enjoying Gros beach, whether sunbathing, swimming, or simply strolling and "being seen".
Before turning back, we will reach the tip of Mompás, where we can see the famous sculpture of the "Dove of Peace" by Nestor Basterretxea, in what locals call "El Muro", a place full of life and informal atmosphere, full of bars and terraces where you can have a beer or a drink and enjoy a good sandwich when night falls.
We will turn and head towards Mount Igueldo, at the top of which is the city's amusement park and the century-old funicular ride. We will leave behind the Paseo Nuevo and the island of Santa Clara and approach closer and closer to Eduardo Chillida's "Peinde del viento", another of the most special points on the coast of San Sebastián. We will make a stop here to admire these sculptures from the sea and take some photos from a unique viewpoint that cannot be appreciated from land.
After this brief stop, we will head towards the Bay of La Concha, where we can see and skirt Ondarreta beach, the Miramar Palace and its gardens, Pico del Loro, and of course, the majestic La Concha beach, full of stories from the Belle Époque, when the nobility spent their summers in San Sebastián.
We will be reaching the end of our boat tour. To starboard, we will see the Real Club Náutico de San Sebastián, a picturesque building that resembles a boat moored in the bay, with Mount Urgull and the majestic statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the bow. We will cross the harbor entrance, and our journey will come to an end. The boat's skipper will initiate the docking maneuver, assisted by two sailors, one at the bow and the other at the stern.
This is the boat tour of San Sebastián that we offer on the Catamaran Ciudad San Sebastián, an experience enjoyed by thousands of people every season, both visitors and locals, for over 50 years.
